AQUENT ANNOUNCES SURVEY FINDINGS FOR THE NEW ZEALAND MAGAZINE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY
Auckland, New Zealand (December 13, 2004) — Aquent, a global, specialist staffing firm that delivers total staffing solutions for the marketing, communications and creative industries, has partnered with the New Zealand Magazine Publishers Association to produce the New Zealand Magazine Publishing Industry Survey 2004 | 2005. The survey covers in-depth hiring, salary-related information and industry spend averages for the magazine publishing industry in New Zealand .
“Revenues are up, workload is up and optimism is high— and conditions are perfect for increased hiring over the upcoming 12 months,” said Simon Lusty, Area Manager of Aquent in New Zealand. “The good news is that our survey confirms 70% of larger publishing houses are planning to hire more permanent staff and an overwhelming 90% anticipating greater sales during the forthcoming year.”
There are key issues that are always present alongside a thriving market. “The buoyant market is driving an increase in talent mobility, with many organisations experiencing a staff turnover in excess of 20% over the last 12 months. To add to that, with increased business activity, it is inevitable the talent shortage and the need to retain quality people will continue to put pressure on salaries meaning that now may well be the time for employers to re-visit their recruitment and retention strategies with more innovative approaches, including global relocation of skilled candidates” explains Lusty
John McClintock, Executive Director of the Magazine Publishers Association (NZ) explains why a survey of this type is necessary. “Knowing who we are, what we spend and how we fit into the wider scheme of things has always been difficult for the New Zealand magazine industry because of its disparate make-up. This survey of 33 publishers, representing 85% of the main titles published in New Zealand , is going a long way to supplying a background base of information.
Partnering with Aquent, a firm that specialises in providing staffing solutions for the communications industry, was an obvious choice for us. Their commitment to service and their efficiency in the collection and collation of the survey data has been fantastic and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with them.”
