Senior Merchant, Digital – Basketball & Training (EMEA)

Our client is at the forefront of serving our consumers’ needs in a dynamic digital marketplace. They obsess over consumer data, marketplace trends, competition, and digital insights to drive their business today while building long-term growth.

We are looking for a Senior Merchant to join their Digital Basketball & Training Merchandising team. In this role, you will lead a complex business portfolio, translating seasonal strategies into premium digital product assortments that elevate the consumer experience across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

What You Will Work On

As Senior Merchant, you will own the end-to-end digital merchandising lifecycle for your category—from seasonal strategy to daily execution.

This is a 6-months fixed term salaried position contracted via Aquent on behalf of our client as a third party. There is the possibility for extension. The role offers between €55K – 69K /annum (pro rata) – 40 hrs/week – based on experience. 

Due to the contracting nature of this role, only candidates with unrestricted rights to work in The Netherlands will be considered. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assortment Creation: Build balanced, consumer-centric digital product assortments that deliver the right product at the right time, place, and price.

  • Pre-Season Planning: Partner closely with Planning counterparts to provide clear assortment direction, ensuring a highly productive, profitable, and strategic seasonal buy.

  • In-Season Trade: Run your business area actively by leveraging retail data and online dashboards to read-and-react to performance, optimizing sales results through weekly trade levers.

  • Product Flow & Distribution: Decide on product distribution and launch flow for Direct To Consumer (DTC) channels to ensure a complete “head-to-toe” digital offering.

  • Future Planning: Synthesize geographic consumer insights to influence future line plan needs for the digital consumer.

  • Cross-Functional Squad Leadership: Serve as a critical merchandising voice within the Basketball Direct Sport Squad, keeping stakeholders updated on product launches, innovation, and key deliverables.

Who We Are Looking For

You have a deep passion for product, a thorough understanding of the digital consumer, and a proactive approach to your daily and seasonal work. You excel in fast-paced, dynamic environments, smoothly managing multiple seasons simultaneously while prioritizing ad-hoc business requests. Strong storytelling and the ability to present complex data clearly to cross-functional stakeholders are critical for success.

 

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Experience: Min. 5 years of relevant retail merchandising experience (DTC).

  • Functional Background: Proven work experience in retail buying or planning is a must, alongside strong knowledge of buying processes.

  • Business Acumen: Exceptional retail and financial acumen with a strong ability to read sales data and translate it into actionable business strategies.

  • Tools: High proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and PowerPoint) and comfort utilizing digital visualization, database, and online analytical dashboard tools.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills. You are a natural team player who builds collaborative cross-functional relationships.

  • Category Affinity: A passion for sport, with a strong affinity for Basketball and Training product lines, is highly preferred.
