As an External Communications Manager, you will develop and execute strategies that amplify the company’s mission, products, and initiatives. This role involves working across cross-functional teams to build and maintain strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and external audiences, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals. You will manage narratives, mitigate risks, and create impactful campaigns that enhance brand reputation and visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Media Relations:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.
- Act as the primary point of contact for press inquiries, providing accurate and timely responses.
- Proactively pitch stories and secure positive media coverage.
Strategic Messaging:
- Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to craft compelling narratives.
- Develop and refine messaging frameworks that align with organizational goals and resonate with external audiences.
Campaign Management:
- Lead external communication campaigns to support product launches, initiatives, and thought leadership.
- Coordinate with marketing, PR, and product teams to ensure cohesive messaging.
Crisis Communication:
- Prepare for and manage communications during crises, maintaining the company’s reputation.
- Develop contingency plans and provide strategic counsel during sensitive situations.
Content Creation:
- Draft press releases, speeches, FAQs, and bylined articles for leadership.
- Oversee the creation of media kits, presentations, and other communication materials.
Metrics and Reporting:
- Measure the success of external communication efforts through analytics and reporting.
- Provide insights to refine strategies and achieve better outcomes.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in external communications, media relations, or public affairs.
- Experience in tech / AI Comms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Proven track record of translating complex technical language and research into compelling and easily understood messages.
- Proven experience managing media relations and external campaigns.
- Experience working in multiple markets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the tech industry or with high-profile brands.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of social media, digital marketing, and communication tools.
