We are seeking an experienced and business-minded Legal Director to join a dynamic global media and entertainment organisation. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs.

Job Description:

  • Provide legal support and counsel to digital, promotions, partnerships, publicity, media, targeted marketing, creative advertising and special events groups in association with theatrical motion picture marketing campaigns and activities across EMEA. First point of contact for all Theatrical marketing, publicity and brand promotions teams across EMEA.
  • Work closely with digital marketing group to develop and successfully execute multi-layered campaigns, which include, among other activations, real time marketing, native advertising, social influencer campaigns, and user generated content activations.
  • Protection of the brand and broad issue spotting across all EMEA activations, from intellectual property to compliance and corporate communication issues. Providing solution focused advice to commercial stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with teams across publicity, events, risk and health & safety in relation to experiential activities and stunts, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, issuing spotting and project management.  
  • Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements, including partner co-promotion and sponsorship agreements, content license agreements, advertising agency and media agreements, software license and platform license agreements, social influencer agreements, marketing vendor agreements, charitable co-promotion agreements, venue agreements, live streaming, and consumer data-related agreements with respect to theatrical marketing campaigns.  
  • Review and advise on all elements of in person events in EMEA for TH releases, from small press Q&As to large premieres.
  • Together with Music Legal, advise on the use of music by publicity and marketing teams in relation to an upcoming release.
  • Work closely with the security teams to implement processes and provide support on all security matters arising from publicity tours, screenings and stunt including security services agreements across EMEA and managing day-to-day issues.
  • Structure, review and draft sweepstakes and contest rules and review supporting marketing materials for the client and partner sponsored promotions. Review EMEA prizing proposals and consider multi-jurisdictional legal issues associated with high value prizes.
  • Review and clear marketing collateral and materials across EMEA, advising on local regulatory requirements and internal clearances and requirements, both on global titles and local productions and acquisitions.    
  • Liaise with privacy and data protection legal support regarding privacy and data elements of theatrical marketing campaigns and activations.
  • Implement processes around the use of AI in supplier contracts. 
  • Engage and work closely with local counsel across EMEA.
  • Managing know-how and template documents for EMEA territories and keeping up to date on relevant regulatory and legal issues (for example ASA rulings).

Job Qualifications:

  • Qualified as Solicitor in United Kingdom.
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Must be able to evaluate and assess risks under tight time frames.
  • Must be able to work independently and juggle projects across multiple territories.
  • Extensive knowledge of digital media.
  • Must be well-versed in EMEA and EU marketing and advertising regulations. Familiarity with voluntary industry standards (DAA, MMA, etc.) preferred.  
  • Must be able to build strong internal client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives and produce strong client satisfaction through practical and strategic thinking.
