The Video Producer position focuses on shooting, craft editing, and creating daily or long-form content for next-generation products, with an eye towards identifying direct-to-consumer, paid experiences. The role involves producing content for publication across all platforms of our client. Assignments include video creation for day-of or breaking news, packages, live videos, and various forms of content for special programming, as well as traditional news elements. The Video Producer incorporates a visually compelling approach to editing and producing while adhering to defined editorial and journalistic standards. Proficiency in both shooting and editing is essential.
The Daily:
- Supports day-to-day production operations across the video team, including logistics, research, and editorial preparation.
- Independently produces low-complexity stories or segments.
- Demonstrates growing editorial judgement by leading treatment development and technical implementation of smaller content (in-house production).
- Contributes ideas for news-of-the-day, breaking, and enterprise video, helping shape treatments that reflect strong editorial instincts and platform relevance.
- Writes scripts and builds outlines for short-form content, with increasing independence and editorial sharpness.
- Supports producers in the creative development, research, pre-production, and post-production workflows for assigned stories.
- Supports the development and treatment of more complex stories, segments, or assignments, with guidance from Producers.
- Logs footage, pulls selects, and assists in fact-checking or sourcing media.
- Prepares and maintains production documentation including rundowns, release forms, and shot lists.
- Organises production elements such as scripts, graphics, b-roll, music, and assets for easy team access.
- Coordinates schedules, meetings, and production timelines for projects.
- Supports on-set or remote shoots by handling gear, slating, taking notes, or assisting talent.
- Participates actively in edit reviews and publishing processes with an understanding of tone, pacing, and platform needs.
- Ensures content complies with legal, rights, and editorial standards.
- Remains engaged with platform trends and audience behaviour to inform content decisions.
- Coordinates with external contributors, footage sources, and production partners under producer supervision.
- Owns pre-production coordination (logistics, bookings, clearances).
- Assists producers and editors in pre-production, production, and post-production tasks as needed.
The Video Producer fulfils these responsibilities by utilising demonstrable technical, editorial, and creative expertise in editing, producing, design and compositing skills, and visual effects. Assignments are completed under production deadlines, requiring flexibility with schedule and working hours.
The Essentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, technical production, English, political science, history, or relevant professional work experience.
- Basic understanding of news.
- Sound editorial judgement, with an emerging sense of what makes a story distinct and engaging.
- Strong research skills.
- Strong writing skills for visual storytelling.
- Ability to manage timelines and stay detail-oriented across concurrent assignments.
- Clear communicator and proactive team contributor.
- Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and build a foundation in editorial production.
- Ability to work under deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Operate basic camera/audio equipment, assemble rough cuts, apply simple graphics, use CMS and asset tools, and understand basic platform metrics.
- Proficient in Adobe Premiere (must-have)
