Aquent Gymnasium Offers MOOCs for Digital Creatives

The power and reach of digital technology have never been greater. And it's easy to imagine all the cool things that creative individuals and innovative organizations might do with the tools at hand.

There's just one problem: the skills gap.

When it comes to making use of new technologies, organizations tend to lag far behind their potential. For this reason, Aquent has launched Aquent Gymnasium, a place where design and front end development professionals can learn new techniques, new technologies, and new approaches.

And companies can close the skills gap.

“Coding for Designers”

We have based the curriculum for Aquent Gymnasium on work we've done with our thousands of clients via focus groups, surveys, and in-depth interviews. As a result of this ongoing research, we know precisely where clients feel the skills gap most acutely and how we can best help them bridge it.

One thing we have been told again and again is that the web designers these companies rely on would be more valuable and more effective if they understood the basics of coding, particularly how to use HTML and CSS.

In response, today we have launched a free MOOC (that's a Massive Open Online Course) called "Coding for Designers." If you are an experienced designer looking to hone your web design skills, then this course will help you become the designer that developers love to work with.

The course is taught by Jim Webb, a professional designer and experienced teacher who, among other things, was design lead for digital media at National Geographic. In this six-session course, Jim will introduce you to the fundamental principles of working with HTML and CSS as well as help you apply this knowledge in the construction of mobile and traditional websites.

Along the way, Jim will also provide you with an abundance of tools and pro tips that will come in handy as you learn to turn your comps into code.

What's the catch?

There is no catch. The course is free and anyone is welcome to enroll!

However, this course is not for beginners. You will need a basic understanding of web design and Photoshop (we will ask you to take a quick, multiple choice quiz before starting the course to gauge your existing skill level).

Also note that if you want to get the most out of the course, you have to be ready to put in the time to watch all of Jim's lessons and complete your homework assignments.

“Wait. Homework???”

Yes. This course is not a theoretical overview of web design. It's a practical, hands-on course aimed at helping you improve your skills and become a better designer. The homework assignments will give you the opportunity to put the lessons into practice and learn by doing.

And, frankly, that's what this and the other courses we will be offering are all about: making it possible for you to learn more, do more, and create more.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the Aquent Gymnasium site, enroll in the class, do the work, and … well, what happens next is up to you.

Thank you!
